This past weekend, The Salvation Army partnered with Indigenous Pathways to host a Celebration of Culture: A Journey of Reconciliation at Pine Lake Camp in the Alberta and Northern Territories Division.

After weeks of relentless monsoon downpours, vast parts of India, Bangladesh and Nepal are under water and more than 40 million people have been affected by the floods. Many of them have lost their homes and livelihoods and, with essential service facilities being overwhelmed, people’s lives are in immediate danger.

In recent days, Texas has suffered from a natural disaster that cannot have escaped your attention. News channels and internet feeds have been relaying information about the devastation caused. The situation is one of significance, not only because of its immediate impact, but because of the lengthy recovery that lies ahead.

More than 500 people filled the parking lot of Suncoast Citadel in Goderich, Ont., in August, waiting to meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The prime minister’s visit to the corps was in support of the Huron County Backpacks for Kids program.

Forty-two mobile kitchens and two field kitchens have been deployed by The Salvation Army in Texas following the landfall of Hurricane Harvey. The Category 4 storm is the most damaging weather system to hit the mainland United States in more than 13 years.

Commissioner Susan McMillan, territorial commander, and the Canadian Staff Band (CSB), accompanied by a team of officers from the Quebec Division, travelled to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, in July, where they encouraged Salvationists at camp meetings.

The Salvation Army’s magazines and website won 24 awards at the Canadian Church Press Convention this year, held in Quebec City from June 20-23.

Salvationists in the Quebec Division of the Canada and Bermuda Territory were greatly encouraged by the visit of General André Cox and Commissioner Silvia Cox (World President of Women’s Ministries) in July. The four-day trip included tours of Salvation Army facilities, meetings with local government officials and a well-attended service at Montreal Citadel—the highlight of the trip.
