Day 5 - STEP UP through Protection
The Salvation Army has a holistic view of health and seeks to walk alongside and serve survivors as they regain their physical, mental, emotional, relational and spiritual health.
We want to provide holistic support to survivors as they regain their physical, mental, emotional, relational and spiritual health. STEPPING UP through PROTECTION can take the form of:
- offering support through sharing of resources available. Try to include the following:
- Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline or call: 1-833-900-1010
- Police Services
- Victim Services
- Women’s Shelters
- Active support groups
- Other agencies etc. involved in the MSHT fight
- Legal Support – legal aid/immigration lawyer
- Refugee and Immigration Service Centre
- Trauma Counsellor
- Walk-in Clinics
- making connections with other churches
- helping people to “Spot the… Signs… Methods… and Risks”
- knowing how and where to report these signs and by providing training. (Available on-line training: Trauma Informed Care from Alberta Health Services; the MSHT Certificate
We can support survivors by STEPPING UP through the PROSECUTION process by:
- providing resources that educate them on their legal rights by having a local expert (i.e., lawyer or law enforcement officer) come and share
- journeying with them through the legal process
- creating connections within the legal community
- knowing the availability of safe housing (check with YWCA, YMCA, shelter networks, etc.)
