On September 17, 14 new cadets of the Messengers of Compassion Session (2017-2019) marched into Elim Chapel in Winnipeg to mark the beginning of their officer training.

This past weekend, The Salvation Army partnered with Indigenous Pathways to host a Celebration of Culture: A Journey of Reconciliation at Pine Lake Camp in the Alberta and Northern Territories Division.

More than 500 people filled the parking lot of Suncoast Citadel in Goderich, Ont., in August, waiting to meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The prime minister’s visit to the corps was in support of the Huron County Backpacks for Kids program.

Commissioner Susan McMillan, territorial commander, and the Canadian Staff Band (CSB), accompanied by a team of officers from the Quebec Division, travelled to Old Orchard Beach, Maine, in July, where they encouraged Salvationists at camp meetings.

The Salvation Army’s magazines and website won 24 awards at the Canadian Church Press Convention this year, held in Quebec City from June 20-23.

Salvationists in the Quebec Division of the Canada and Bermuda Territory were greatly encouraged by the visit of General André Cox and Commissioner Silvia Cox (World President of Women’s Ministries) in July. The four-day trip included tours of Salvation Army facilities, meetings with local government officials and a well-attended service at Montreal Citadel—the highlight of the trip.

The Salvation Army has joined other Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh and Bahá’í faith leaders in Canada in launching a national appeal to help address the famines in South Sudan and the extreme food shortages in Yemen, northeast Nigeria and Somalia.

Over the May long weekend, the Canada and Bermuda Territory held its first ever territorial adult music camp at Redeemer University in Ancaster, Ont., as delegates from six of the territory’s nine divisions gathered for a time of music making, Bible study and fellowship.
