The Cat in the Hat, a new animated comedy from Warner Bros., in theatres November 6, promises a fun-filled adventure for all ages. The film stars Bill Hader (Barry) as the giant talking cat who possesses magical powers via his red and white striped hat.

The Cat in the HatChanging Your Cattitude

“Every one of your assignments has been a disaster,” says “Mr. Hoogeboom,” the Cat in the Hat’s boss at the Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration. “We’re giving you one last chance to show us you can succeed . . . or you lose the stripes on your hat.”

Wait! The Cat in the Hat’s red and white stripes contain all his powers. If he loses those stripes, the Cat will be reduced to a common alley cat. Unimaginable!

For his near-impossible assignment, the Cat needs to convince depressed and lonely siblings Gabby and Sebastian that their recent move isn’t all bad.

But when the Cat first pops through a hole in the wall at Gabby and Sebastian’s new house, they shoot him in the face with a laser gun!

Before they can call the police, the Cat pulls out his “Go-backer” contraption, which allows its user to undo their past. Gabby grabs the invention and tries to program it to undo their move and return to their previous neighbourhood. However, when the Cat reaches to retrieve it, the Go-backer flips out of his hands and is lost. In a panic, he tells the kids, “If we don’t find the Gobacker, the universe will be destroyed forever.”

The Cat promises Gabby and Sebastian that if they’ll help him find the contraption, he’ll undo their move. During their fantastic search, they land in the world of memories. The kids want to stay there. Everything from the past feels comfortable and familiar.

Will Gabby and Sebastian give up their desire for a safe world of memories? Or will they help solve the Cat in the Hat’s newest catastrophe by changing their cattitude and help save the universe?

Life With Jesus: The Cat’s Pyjamas

Rare is the person who enjoys change. Like Gabby and Sebastian, we cling to what we’re accustomed to from the past. We crave that sense of security the familiar gives us.

When we hear about salvation through Jesus and make Him the boss of our lives, He changes everything. But in a good way.

Jesus erases the sin and ugliness of our past. He gives us a new life, one that’s full of goodness and love (see Psalm 23:6). Jesus’ plans help us succeed (see Jeremiah 29:11). And following Him is better than we could dream or imagine (see Ephesians 3:20 and John 10:10).

With Jesus for us, by our side and in us, we never need fear any kind of change. Life with Jesus is the Cat’s Pyjamas. Even better than a magical striped hat.
