When Diana* first connected with The Salvation Army, she was looking for guidance. Living in supportive housing through Sanctuary London, she felt ready to do more with her time — to contribute, connect, and move forward. Though she held a diploma in Office Administration and had a strong circle of support through her family, friends, and faith community, she wasn’t sure where to begin.

Her journey began when her Ontario Works worker told her about Pathway of Hope. Inspired to take the next step, she reached out to Katie, the POH caseworker at Hillcrest Community Church, setting in motion a season of growth marked by courage, clarity, and new possibilities.

Together, they focused on what mattered most to Diana: employment, education and emotional wellness. She began attending job interviews and planning to return to school. At the same time, she worked through personal and relational challenges by developing tools to better understand and manage her emotions. Mood walks, breathing exercises, and community activities became part of her self-care routine, helping her stay grounded and resilient.

Excited about what lay ahead, Diana applied to Fanshawe College and is now waiting to hear back from employers. Her days are fuller, her goals are clearer, and her sense of direction is stronger.

"I gained self-confidence," she says. "I've learned that it's okay to ask for help.”

Katie, her POH caseworker, reflects: “It was a pleasure to work with Diana. She was self-accountable and needed someone to help her organize her goals and aspirations. The potential was always there — she needed space to see it.”

Today, Diana feels ready to move forward. She’s closed a chapter of her journey with POH, knowing she can always return for support if needed.
