Supporting Survivors as They Exit:
Support Services and Recovery + MSHT Training
This training is composed of 7 modules that can be completed online at anytime, from anywhere for free and at your own pace within 6 months. Each module consists of teaching videos while providing access to applicable resources. In order to move on to the next module, participants are required to complete either a case study or respond to a question to test and stretch their knowledge. Individuals who successful complete each module will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
Training Description
This training focuses on equipping service providers with the knowledge and tools needed to support people as they are exiting a MSHT situation. Participants will engage in foundation building by exploring the concepts and core principles of support services, trauma, trauma informed care, a person-centred approach, a strength based approach, cultural humility, do no harm, a faith based approach and ensure justice. This training will explore the importance of holistic care, providing specific instruction on numerous physical, emotional, and spiritual signs/symptoms and needs of a person with lived experience as they journey towards their personal healing. Attention will be given to the identification and explanation of short, medium and long-term considerations, focusing intentionally on housing security, legal and translation support, the development of life skills, education and job empowerment and reunification / repatriation. Participants will also explore the importance of relationship building, dos and don’ts, and the role of service providers in warm handoffs.

Module Description:
Module 1: Supports Services – Explores the concept and core principles of providing support services for people exiting a modern slavery and human trafficking (MSHT) situation. Participants will also be provided with a working definition of victim and survivor of MSHT.
Module 2: Foundation Building – Part One – Explores and explains the concept of trauma and trauma informed care and its importance to service provision and the support of people with lived experience in MSHT.
Module 3: Foundation Building – Part Two – Explores and explains the concepts of a person-centered approach, a strength based approached, cultural humility and the principle of do no harm and their importance to service provision and the support of people with lived experience in MSHT.
Module 4: Foundation Building – Part Three – Explores and explains a faith based approach to providing service provision and support of people with lived experience in MSHT. Attention will also be placed on ensure justice – what this means, its importance and an example of how to accomplish this.
Module 5: Holistic Care – Examines the importance of taking a holistic approach to providing service provision and the support of people with lived experience. An emphasis will be placed on exploring what holistic care looks like physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Module 6: Short, Medium and Long Term Considerations – Explores other considerations when supportig people who have exited their MSHT situation including housing security, legal and translation support, the development of life skills, education and job empowerment and reunification / repatriation.
Module 7: Other Considerations – Examines the importance of relationship building and promising practices. Identification around dos and don’ts will be provided with attention given to understand the practice and role of service providers in a warm handoff.
