How can Faith Based Communities Engage in the Fight For Freedom?

Book Launch - Ending Human Trafficking: A Handbook of Strategies for the Church Today
January 18, 2022, 11 a.m. (PST) / 1 p.m. (CMT) / 2 p.m. (EST)

Imagine a steep and deadly cliff. Today, most churches and nonprofit organizations working in anti-human trafficking are focused solely on the victims who have already fallen or been thrown off the steep and deadly cliff of modern slavery and human trafficking. The primary focus is on recovery - on scraping up the victims at the bottom of that cliff. While this is, of course, important, we will never end human trafficking and modern slavery with this as our only strategy. Together, we must erect a collaborative, impervious “fence” so that women, men, and children never fall off this cliff in the first place.

This webinar will educate and assist faith-based communities in discerning what part of the “fence” they can build collaboratively with their greater community. It will address questions such as “What might be the fence posts of a faith-based community”? “What is your faith-base communities’ part of this protective fence”? And “where can they link their fence posts to others who are also building fence posts”?

This webinar will help focus faith-based communities’ response and resources by providing practical examples of how they can engage in this fight for freedom that will ultimately result in sustainable change that embodies collaboration and partnership in your wider community.

The content for this webinar is from Shayne Moore's forthcoming book Ending Human Trafficking: A Handbook of Strategies for the Church Today (Intervarsity Press Academic, April 2022). To learn more about her book, visit: https://www.ivpress.com/ending-human-trafficking

Human trafficking is one of the most pressing social justice issues of our time, and in recent years there has been renewed interest among Christians, as many have been stirred up to take their part in the ongoing battle. This is a wonderful thing—and yet misinformed and misguided efforts can do more harm than good. Ending Human Trafficking is a handbook designed to educate churches and parachurch organizations for truly effective work.

In collaboration with the Humanitarian Disaster Institute at Wheaton College Graduate School and The Global Center for Women and Justice at Vanguard University, Ending Human Trafficking is an accessible and compelling resource for Christian leaders, written by seasoned leaders in the struggle against modern slavery. Grounded in a theological response to the issue and filled with stories, up-to-date data, and practical tools and tips, it promises to be an invaluable resource for years to come
