Leader Internship

The Salvation Army Leader Internship is a professional development experience for leaders to grow their influence, explore their calling and deepen their mission impact.

The Leader Internship program is designed to identify and develop emerging leaders within The Salvation Army – Canada and Bermuda Territory. Through immersive learning experiences and meaningful engagement with senior leaders, participants will gain greater insight into their leadership capacity and how their work connects to the mission of The Army at a broader level.
This internship is not about stepping away from your current role—it’s about stepping into your leadership potential with fresh perspective, stronger skills and a deeper connection to the movement you serve.


Eligibility:
This program is for TSA leaders who have been completed the Emerging Leaders program and are ready to continue along their leadership journey, grow their influence and contribute to a thriving future for The Salvation Army.

Program Structure
The Leader Internship is a learning journey designed around community, reflection and real-world application. This program includes:

Inspire Summit - Two-day in-person kick-off to introduce the program and build new connections.

  • Initiation of Community of Practice gatherings.
  • Dialogues with TSA leaders from across the system.
  • Exploration of leadership interests and goals.

Ongoing Virtual Learning and Leadership Exploration

  • Regular Community of Practice gatherings, where interns support one another’s growth.
  • A system-wide perspective developed through practical leadership experiences.
  • A coach-approach learning environment—expect reflective questions, practical tools and real conversation.
  • Opportunity to help organize and facilitate a learning gathering as part of your development.

Final Capstone Experience

  • At the end of the internship (within 18–24 months), participants will share their learning in a format that reflects their growth and insights as leaders. The format and date will be announced as the program unfolds.

A Coach Approach to Instruction
This program is not a lecture series. It's a journey—one filled with conversation, curiosity and courageous growth. You’ll be encouraged to reflect deeply, engage honestly and apply what you learn in your day-to-day leadership context. Whether you’re leading a team, influencing across departments or preparing for what’s next, the Leader Internship is designed to help you lead with clarity, compassion and conviction.

Certification and Digital Badge
Upon completing the program, participants will receive an official certification from The Salvation Army in the form of a shareable, verifiable digital badge through Credly.

Program Duration and Delivery
This 18-month program features a blend of self-paced and instructor-led learning experiences. While most of the learning sessions are online, there are opportunities to gather in-person as a cohort.

Program Cost
This program is fully funded by Leadership Development as part of The Salvation Army’s investment in growing strong leaders across the territory. All program costs, including travel expenses, are covered by Leadership Development. There is no cost to you or your ministry unit.
