Pastoral Letter to Officers, Salvationists, Employees and Friends of The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory
Dear friends:
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the promotion to glory of Commissioner Floyd J. Tidd, following a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. Commissioner Floyd has gone to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of faithful service, passionate leadership and a profound commitment to the gospel.
Throughout his distinguished ministry, Commissioner Floyd embodied his motto of being "Partners in the gospel." His leadership was marked by a deep pastoral care, a visionary approach to mission, and an unwavering dedication to the spiritual and physical well-being of those he served. His life was a testament to the love of Christ in action.
Commissioner Floyd's legacy is carried forward by his devoted wife, Commissioner Tracey Tidd, his children, and grandchildren, who can be justifiably proud of the profound mark he left on our movement and, indeed, the Salvation Army world. His example of service and his commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army will continue to inspire us all.
Commissioner Debbie and I join you in sending our deepest condolences and prayerful support to Commissioner Tracey, their children and spouses, Kaleena and Anthony Scocco, and Chris and Kalyn Tidd, and families, as well as Commissioner Floyd’s mother, Captain Myrna Tidd, his brother, Rob, and all who grieve this great loss. In Psalm 34:18 we read, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” May the God of all comfort be especially near to all who mourn Commissioner Floyd’s passing.
As we remember Commissioner Floyd, let us also recommit ourselves to the mission he so passionately championed. His life was a powerful reminder that we are called to be true partners in the gospel, working together to share the love and hope of Christ with a world in need. "Servant of God, well done!" Commissioner Floyd’s life and ministry have left an indelible mark, and we give thanks to God for the gift of his leadership and Christian example. “Remember your leaders, who spoke the Word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:7-8).
May God bless you.
In his service,
Lee and Debbie Graves
Commissioners
