At The Salvation Army, the community is at the heart of our mission. We believe in serving not just individuals but whole communities. These communities are our partners in making the world a better place. Understanding their needs, challenges, and aspirations is paramount to fulfilling our mission effectively. For us, community engagement is not a strategy; it's our honour and privilege.

4 Stages of Navigation
Get to Know You
Purpose For the Ministry Unit to understand who they are serving, how they operate, the types of programming they offer and to identify the primary needs of their community from their own observations. Plan Pull information from their Ministry Unit through Link2Feed, etc. to provide answers to the questions that are asked. Action Reflect |
Time to Investigate
Purpose We want the Ministry Unit to explore what exists in their community and to better understand, through investigation and “digging deep.” Plan Using the data pulled from the 2nd “Get to Know” Directional Checkpoint, identify 3 key organizations to visit on-site and connect with and use the interaction guide (i.e. 3 leading questions to ask each organization). Following meetings with key organizations, Ministry Units will then gather data about their community through researching strategies and plans set out by their location. Action •Research |
Unlocking Insights
Purpose For the Ministry Unit to compile, gain knowledge, and make connections with what exists in their community through their investigation and reflection. Plan Analyze the findings from "Time to Investigate" to understand their community's demographics, needs, actions taken, and areas lacking action. Action Analyze |
Setting Your Course
Purpose For the Ministry Unit to use their findings and strengthen community connections by identifying a suitable course of action to implement initiatives that foster greater connections within their community. Plan Use findings and reflections to create a short-term (6-month) and long-term (1-year) plan for community initiatives through the Ministry Unit. Action Advance |
