Day 4 - STEP UP through Prevention
Raising awareness and addressing the root cause of modern slavery and human trafficking is a vital element decreasing vulnerability.
A key element in the fight for freedom is prevention; this requires us to raise awareness of the root causes of exploitation that can lead to human trafficking. Working with your MSHT Response Advocate, you can STEP UP through PREVENTION by:
- printing and posting posters that identify the types of trafficking, the modes of people movement, becoming familiar with the “Spot the…” series. (Additional resources can be found at: https://www.actalberta.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/whatishumantrafficking.jpg, https://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/human-trafficking/index.html?ref=menuside, and https://www.endslaverynow.org/learn)
- hosting a viewing of “Not in My Backyard”
- leading a sermon series that highlight the value of all people to God, God’s view of justice, and God’s instruction on treating the vulnerable is another avenue of prevention. (Resource: The Fight for Freedom Annual Day of Prayer for Victims of Human Trafficking)
- Education is also a key response. Consider where in your programs you can equip those who are most vulnerable and provide them with training opportunities. (contact your Divisional/Regional/Provincial MSHT Response Advocate for more information)
