Lt-Colonel Donald Copple, Chief Secretary, has announced the following changes to the administrative structure of The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda:
Many of you are aware that leadership at all levels of the organization have been engaged in discussions of an administrative structure that would effectively support the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda.
International Headquarters has given its approval to the proposal submitted for change in our administrative structure. These changes are as follows:
1. A reorganization of divisional boundaries to create a more centralized divisional administrative structure that together with THQ will provide technical support to ministry units.
2. The appointment of area commanders across divisions in the territory. These officers will be responsible to the Divisional Commanders for coaching and supporting ministry units.
As a result, the following changes and appointing of area commanders will come into effect on July 1, 2009:
1. Alberta and Northern Territories Division will revert to being a stand alone division with DHQ remaining in Edmonton.
2. Bermuda Division will remain as a stand alone division.
3. British Columbia Division will remain as a stand alone division.
4. Maritime Division will remain as a stand alone division.
5. Manitoba & NW Ontario Division will merge with Saskatchewan to become the Prairie Division. DHQ will be located in Winnipeg.
6. Newfoundland West & Labrador Division and Newfoundland East & Labrador Division will merge to become the Newfoundland & Labrador Division. DHQ will be located in St. John's.
7. Ontario Central-East Division will have its boundaries changed to include some units from the Ontario North Division and an adjustment in units that are presently in the Halton region.
8. Ontario Great Lakes Division will have its boundaries changed to include a significant part of the Ontario North Division plus ministry units in Halton that are currently part of Ontario Central-East Division. DHQ will remain London.
9. Quebec will remain as a stand alone division.
Note: Ontario North Division will no longer be a stand alone division and will be completely merged into the Ontario Central-East and Ontario Great Lakes Divisions.
