What Is Love New Canadians?

Love New Canadians is a ministry that equips local churches to serve new Canadians in their neighbourhoods and to be intentionally welcoming for immigrants, refugees, and international students.

It helps corps build practical ministries that begin with hospitality and conversation and can grow into deeper community, spiritual exploration, and discipleship. Rather than needing to create everything from scratch, corps can draw from proven curriculum, clear pathways, and experienced coaching support.

What This Partnership Means for Corps

Through this partnership, corps have access to all Love New Canadians curriculum and unlimited coaching and mentoring from successful practitioners in intercultural ministry.

This removes one of the biggest barriers to getting started. Corps do not need to purchase resources individually or try to figure this out alone. The curriculum and coaching support are already available through the THQ Corps Mission Department.

This makes it easier for corps to begin small, explore what fits their context, and grow a sustainable ministry of welcome over time.

How It Works

1. Start with Welcome

Create a welcoming environment where newcomers can practise English, build confidence, and form connections.

2. Build Relationships

Conversation-based ministry creates space for trust, friendship, and meaningful community engagement.

3. Create Faith Pathways

As relationships grow, use structured curriculum to introduce spiritual conversations and accessible Bible study.

What a Ministry Setting Can Look Like

Many corps begin with a simple weekly gathering such as an English conversation class, friendship-based group, or newcomer-focused hospitality ministry. From there, relationships deepen and natural pathways to faith can emerge over time.

Curriculum Overview

Stage 1: Friendship Focus

Conversation classes, calendar-based and topic-based lessons, Canadian culture discussions, and beginner-friendly materials that help newcomers feel comfortable and engaged.

Stage 2: For the Spiritually Curious

Bridges lessons in John, Matthew, and Luke that introduce Jesus and Scripture through simple English, vocabulary support, and guided discussion.

Stage 3: For Those Close to Faith or New to Faith

ESL Bible studies, women’s studies, and discipleship-oriented resources that help people continue growing in understanding and commitment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this ministry actually do?

Love New Canadians helps churches serve newcomers in practical ways through language support, hospitality, friendship, and intentional faith pathways.

Why does ministry to newcomers matter right now?

Many newcomers across Canada are looking for community, support, belonging, and places to practise English. Churches are uniquely positioned to respond with practical care and Christ-centred welcome.

Who is this ministry for?

It is designed to help churches welcome immigrants, refugees, and international students. It can be adapted to a wide range of local ministry contexts.

Is this only for corps with large newcomer populations?

No. Smaller or rural corps can also participate. Starting small is both realistic and effective.

Do we need a large team to begin?

No. Many corps can begin with a few committed people and a simple, consistent ministry rhythm.

What kind of commitment does it take to start?

Most corps begin with a simple weekly gathering and grow gradually over time. You do not need everything figured out before you begin, and starting small is often the best approach.

How much does this cost our corps?

Through the THQ Corps Mission Department partnership, Love New Canadians is available free of charge to corps, with curriculum and coaching support included.

What support is available?

Corps have access to all curriculum as well as unlimited coaching and mentoring from practitioners with experience in intercultural ministry.

What if our corps already feels stretched?

That is a common concern. This ministry can begin modestly and grow over time. It works best as an expression of your corps mission and hospitality rather than as an added program burden.

Can this become part of the rhythm of our corps?

Yes. Sustainable newcomer ministry is usually built over time and becomes part of a corps’ ongoing expression of welcome, hospitality, and mission.
