On June 11, Salvationists gathered at territorial headquarters (THQ) to say goodbye to territorial leaders Commissioners Brian and Rosalie Peddle, as well as Secretary for Personnel Lt-Colonel Sandra Rice.
While Commissioners Peddle will continue until September 1 as territorial leaders, the event was an opportunity to share some parting words with THQ staff prior to the summer season.
In the fall, the commissioners will take up appointments as international secretary for the Americas and Caribbean and zonal secretary for women's ministries for the Americas and Caribbean, respectively. Lt-Colonel Rice will transition to a new role as divisional commander for the Ontario Central-East Division.
Lt-Colonel Sandra Rice shares lessons in leadership
Gratitude for the Peddles' consistent and compassionate leadership was expressed by Chief Secretary Mark Tillsley. Major Brian Armstrong thanked Lt-Colonel Rice for her steady hand in personnel matters.
In response, Commissioner Brian Peddle recognized the thousands of officers, employees and volunteers around the territory. Commissioner Rosalie Peddle noted the joys of serving in Canada and Bermuda, and acknowledged her children and grandchildren, two of whom sang a rendition of Jesus Loves Me to the delight of the crowd.
Lt-Colonel Rice thanked members of her team and shared leadership lessons from the habits of Canada geese, which flock together in formation and support one another in times of distress.
The service was followed by a time of fellowship as headquarters staff enjoyed a barbecue lunch and celebratory cake.
