“I love the mission and the sacred work of The Salvation Army,” says Major Carson Decker, territorial candidates secretary, “sharing the love of Jesus, meeting human needs and being a transforming influence.

“It’s been a beautiful journey, filled with incredible moments, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. And if I had to do it all over again, I would still say yes.”

In 2021, we launched a new chapter, mobilizing under a new vision with a 10-year horizon and a strategy to guide us toward that future. Today, halfway through the journey, it’s time to pause, reflect and refresh around what matters most—and move forward together.

Mercy isn’t simply feeling sorry for someone and empathizing with their plight. It’s knowing we can make a person who’s wronged us suffer for their wrong—and choose instead to set them free.

It has helped us make necessary decisions, address important realities and prepare ourselves for the future God is shaping.

On this past Christmas Day, a fire destroyed The Salvation Army building in Prince Albert, Sask. But the mission continues, thanks to the support of the town and its people.
