Welcome to the Host Team Training Resource Site!

    Download ZIP File

We’re thrilled that you’ve chosen to utilize this resource for your corps! The file you've downloaded is designed for various settings, providing an effective way to train and equip your volunteers. Whether your team consists of two, three, or twenty members, this resource will help you cultivate a culture of generous hospitality.

Step 1: Familiarize Yourself with the Materials

Begin by reviewing the materials and files provided.

    Step 2: Identify Unique Roles

Every church has unique needs, and not all roles (e.g., parking team) may be necessary for your context. Consider which roles will best serve your church at this time. Prayerfully reflect on the gifts and talents within your congregation and identify individuals who could contribute to this important ministry.

Step 3: Schedule Your Training Day

Choose a convenient time for your volunteers, whether that's an hour after church or a weekday evening. Prepare in advance by organizing a duotang or folder with the relevant 'Role Guidelines,' 'Role Training' documents, as well as the 'Introduction and Overview' and 'Axioms.'

Step 4: Example Training Day Schedule

    • Welcome Volunteers
    • Open in Prayer
    • Review the 'Introduction and Overview' Document
    • Training Video 1 & Discussion
    • Discuss Responsibilities: Using the Guidelines and Training resources, review the responsibilities of each role. Encourage all volunteers to listen actively, as there may be times when team members need to step in for one another.

Note: This resource serves as a starting point. Feel free to adjust it to fit your corps setting. Our goal is to cultivate a culture of generous hospitality, not to rigidly adhere to a script.

When discussing responsibilities, consider reviewing them in a timeline format—from pre-service through to the end of the service. This approach helps volunteers understand their expectations throughout the worship service.

    • Training Video 2 & Discussion
    • Going Above and Beyond Cards: Encourage Christ-like hospitality among your team by preparing these cards for volunteers to affirm one another’s positive impact.
    • Training Video 3 & Discussion
    • Host Team Axioms: These statements set the tone for a healthy, generous team. Feel free to use or expand upon these axioms.
    • Close in Prayer

    Step 5: Establish Clear Communication

Create open channels for your team to provide feedback. Be receptive to adjustments and ensure any changes are communicated to everyone involved. As more volunteers express interest, consider hosting additional training days or developing role leaders to provide specialized training for their areas.

We hope this resource is a blessing to you and your corps. If you have any questions or need assistance, the Corps Mission team is here to help. Please reach out to us at: corps.mission@salvationarmy.ca.
